SEIU Local 1021 Endorses the Progressive/Labor UNITY Slate in Assembly District 18 Democratic Delegates Election

Oakland, California: As the California Assembly District Election Meeting for Assembly District 18 on Sunday, January 27 nears, workers united in SEIU Local 1021 have endorsed the Progressive/Labor UNITY Slate, citing the candidates’ experience and effectiveness in advancing progressive issues within the East Bay community. Candidates on the Progressive/Labor UNITY Slate come from a diverse background and experience service the public.

Felipe Cuevas, a heavy equipment mechanic for the City of Oakland and President of the Oakland Chapter of SEIU Local 1021, said “The Bay Area is facing a housing crisis and massive income inequality. The candidates on the Progressive/Labor Unity Slate have the courage to tackle these problems and stand up to corporate-backed special interests. From leading grassroots campaigns to win strong protections for renters to ensuring that working people have a voice in the decisions that impact their lives, these candidates will prioritize the issues that matter most to working families. These candidates will work for a fairer California, where no one gets left behind.”

Assembly District Delegates to the Democratic State Central Committee (DSCC) represent their constituents, elect party officers, promote the California Democratic Party agenda, and vote to endorse candidates and ballot measures.

The full slate includes California Democratic Party Delegate and Executive Board Member Sean Dugar (Executive Board), Oakland City Councilmember Nikki Fortunato Bas, Alameda Unified School District Board Member Gray Harris, Oakland City Councilmember Sheng Thao, California Democratic Party Delegate and Executive Board Member Jeff DelBono, Dwayne C. Ealy, Sugar Sweetened Beverage Community Advisory Board Member Kim Carter Martinez, Tonya D. Love (TDL), Vice President of the Alameda Labor Council and Vice President of Politics for SEIU 1021 Gary Jimenez, Yonatan Landau, Alameda Renters Coalition elected President and chair of the Central Valley’s Empowerment Alliance Mari Perez-Ruiz, City of Alameda City Councilmember Malia Vella, City of Alameda City Councilmember John Knox White, and Political Involvement Committee Chair of the Oakland Education Association Jeremy Wolff.

The Assembly District 18 ADEMS Delegate Election is scheduled for Sunday, January 27, 2019 at College of Alameda (Student Lounge in Building F) 555 Ralph Appezzato Memorial Parkway. Doors open at noon, and registration ends at 2:45 p.m.
