RESPONSIBILITIES: Will work with the Organizing staff to implement the organizing plan of the Local Union. Identify and recruit worker leaders who want to organize to join the union; direct contact with unorganized workers; development of leadership and structure of organizing campaigns, as well as conduct organizing drives and representation elections. Mobilize union members to support new organizing. This is not a 9 to 5 job, and includes long and varied hours, with early morning, evening and weekend work, as necessary. May require travel and periods of overnights.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
You will conduct worksite meetings, offsite meetings, and house visits with workers; develop weekly and monthly plans based on overall campaign goals; identify worker issues, mobilize workers for public actions, track worker data; identify and help lawyers to file legal and regulatory charges and lawsuits to support the campaign.

Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

High level ability to communicate orally and in writing.

Ability to work under pressure and with minimal supervision; must be well-organized and self-motivated.

Ability to exercise good judgment and discern priorities.

Ability to make effective use of resources available to the union.

Dedication to improving the position of working people and strengthening the role of organized labor in society through work actions, community relations, and legislative and political activity.

Ability to work effectively with members and staff from diverse ethnic, social, and economic groups.

EXPERIENCE: One (1) year experience in union organizing. Representation and negotiations experience highly desirable, but not required. Related experience will be given consideration as will steward and rank-and-file experience. Local 1021 seeks to maintain a staff which is representative of a wide variety of backgrounds in order that the union truly reflects our members’ interests and concerns.

REQUIREMENTS: Must possess a valid California driver’s license; must pass a DMV check and have a good driving record; must have auto insurance that covers business driving (minimum of $100,000 per person/$300,000 per incident bodily injury liability/$50,000 property coverage); and must possess an automobile for business use.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: The current salary range is 61,628 – 101,222 based on qualifications and experience. SEIU Local 1021 offers a competitive and comprehensive benefits package.
